Sidi Ali, former Nigerian lawmaker dies at 86

In a letter, it was announced that 86-year-old Sidi Ali, a renowned journalist and congressman for the Second Republic, died on Thursday night.

The elder statesman, who was born in Kano, will be honoured for his steadfast commitment to serving the country, particularly in the area of public information.

Shehu Sani, a former legislator and human rights advocate, announced Ali’s passing on his X account on Friday. Sani called Ali a “human library” who had an amazing memory for every important moment in Nigerian history.

The late Sidi was a prolific writer and a human library who could recount events in Nigeria up until late independence. A great loss. My condolences to his family and the people of Kano State,” Sani posted.

Ali made important contributions to a number of organisations over his successful career, including the National Broadcasting Commission, the Ministry of Information, and the Nigerian International Press Centre. He was a well-liked All Progressives Congress (APC) member who actively participated in the Kano State Elders Committee of the party.
