THE POLITICS OF THE THROAT

The Nigerian political sphere has been plagued by various elements that have contributed to the underdevelopment and insecurity in the country. Among the most significant perpetrators are:

Corruption: Corruption is one of the biggest issues affecting Nigerian politics. It has infiltrated all levels of government and has led to the mismanagement of resources, looting of public funds, and a weak legal system that fails to hold corrupt politicians accountable.

Nepotism: Nepotism is another issue that has undermined the progress of Nigerian politics. Political appointments, contracts, and opportunities are skewed towards family members, friends, and political allies rather than qualified individuals, resulting in incompetence and ineffective administration.

Electoral malpractices: Political violence, ballot stuffing, voter intimidation, and other electoral malpractices have been used to manipulate election outcomes for personal gain. This has led to rigged elections, which have resulted in poor governance and lack of progress.

Ethnic and religious politics: Ethnic and religious affiliations often dominate Nigerian politics. This has led to the marginalization of certain groups and a lack of representation for the minority groups. Political power and resources often flow to those in positions of majority ethnic or religious power, while others are left out.

Lack of accountability: There is a severe lack of accountability in Nigerian politics. Politicians can act with impunity, and there is no system in place to ensure that they are held accountable for their actions. This lack of accountability leads to a disregard for the needs of the people and a focus on self-interests rather than the interests of the country.

In the Nigerian political space has been dominated by individuals and groups whose primary aim is to enrich themselves and their cronies at the expense of the country and its people. This has resulted in widespread corruption, nepotism, electoral malpractices, ethnic and religious politics, and a lack of accountability. It is vital for all Nigerians to demand transparency, accountability, and good governance from their political leaders to move the country forward.
