Forgotten Dairies

The Past, The Present & The Future Of Our Society (The Parent, the government & the entertainment industry’s effect) -By Abdullahi Abideen Adepoju

Most of our parents don’t want to care for children anymore, they want to sit comfortably and start to reap the fruit of their children at younger age. Imagine a young child that still needs parental care and upbringing. It’s not every child you see doing fraud or looking for money extremely in one way or the other have the mind, its their parents that affected them negatively by asking them for money when they suppose to be the one catering for the children to become someone great in his/her field.

So many things are wrong somewhere and need serious attention. There’s no parental responsibility and care anymore like we used to have in the past. Backthen, when we were in secondary school, the only thing our parent and the society teaches us is how to pass WASSCE & write JAMB to further our education, we used to be focused and more serious about our educational career and for those that do not have plans to further but are already learning vocational jobs would also focus on their career with seriousness.

During this time, we don’t use to be freak with social media, our parents wouldn’t allow us to have phone even if it’s small Nokia phone that has only games on it. The only social media our eyes are opened to are Facebook and 2go, I could remember I opened my first Facebook account and 2go in 2008 through a friends phone but don’t often have access to them and once I have access I would read news on Facebook and only talk in football rooms and entertainment on 2go.

Our society has gotten it wrong now, before I blame the government, I’ll first blame the parents for everything happening today.

You see our young girls now doing OLOSHO work packaged as HOOKUP, subhanallahi. These young girls are being sent to school to study but their parent won’t care about their feeding expenses and even accommodation and sometimes clothing, some parent will only pay school fees and expect the jobless student to be able to feed & cater for herself. Most of the young boys going into scam are also being pushed by hunger and negligence of parents. Some parents don’t even know where their children live in school, it’s a duty of parent to visit their children’s hostel once in a while and mostly uninformed to know what your children is doing in school and the kind of people they live with.

Our bad educational system and poor governance is also an important factor that ruined the future and dream of most youths and even the coming generation. There’s no job after school, most graduates feel bad living in poverty while their colleagues that do not further their education but are into vocational jobs are living large and better, the cost of living is also too high and unbearable and so that’s why everything turns this way because everyone want to live large and happily. Imagine an average Nigerian can’t eat 3 square meal daily and those that are able to eat it don’t even eat what they want but what they see.

Our entertainment is the worse of these factors, Nigerian movies have no lesson to pass across than money ritual, robbery, scam & prostitution, even though they always end their movies with the people involved in these bad acts been suffered for it but they’ve already pictured how it’s been done and that has motivated alot of people. Nigeria music industry hiphop and local musics like Fuji are the best in the 90s and early 20s. Big shout out to the likes of Idris Abdulkareem, Barrister and co, all they use to sing is how the country is being govern, how the government need to take attention to the citizens, they entertain how love should be treated and the likes but look at us now, if you want to be popular in music industry now in Nigeria, you must sing about pussy, dick, MONEY and praise the known/popular fraudsters and ritualists or else no one will acknowledge your music or listen to it. Falz the bad guy produced an album that sums up everything happening in Nigeria and it has lesser downloads and recommendations to the ones he sang about money and party dance.

To change the situation in the country, every parent need to be responsible and raise a good, God fearing and discipline children. The government should fear God and govern with conscience and the entertainment industry should teach the society right things in both musical aspect, comedy, movies and others. The end time is near but why is it staring from Nigeria and not the European countries that brought the scripture to us? This is a big question that need serious answers from everyone of us.
