Following an argument inside their Houston, Texas, home, 26-year-old Michael Chidozie, a Nigerian, was shot four times by his wife. Chidozie later died from complications resulting from a spine injury.

On March 21, during a heated dispute, Chidozie’s wife Keaiirra Shavoiyae, who is two years older than him, shot him in front of his two children. She claimed to have acted in self-defense.

When authorities discovered him with gunshot wounds and his wife franticly clutching their two children, ages two and three, he was sent to Ben Taub Hospital.

After they argued and he followed her into their bedroom, she said she shot Chidozie in self-defense out of fear for her life.

After being shot twice in the torso, once in the arm, and once in the chest, Chidozie was left to die on the bedroom floor.

Witnesses reported Shavoiyae was frantically running about asking for help, so cops located her with the kids in a neighbouring parking lot.

Friends expressed disbelief that an argument became deadly, saying they had never witnessed the pair acting violently against one another.

Chidozie’s family, who prayed for him while he was in the hospital, is currently working to gather $70,000 so that his remains can be returned to Nigeria, where he had hoped to one day be buried.

“His passing has left a profound void in the lives of all who knew and loved him. He was a devoted father, a cherished son, and a dear friend to many,” they said.

“Chidozie’s kind heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for his family will forever be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.”
