We Are Frail Because We Are Human -By Albert Afeso Akanbi

Not long ago, the revered clergy man Pastor E.A Adeboye told a story to a large congregation of his RCCG members!

A woman’s daughter and the twins the daughter had given birth to had all died during labor. When this woman got the news, she picked up the anointing oil and handkerchief he Adeboye gave her and dashed to the hospital. Their corpses were about to be wheeled into the mortuary when the woman arrived. Upon her arrival, she told them to stop and then administered few drops of the anointing oil inside their mouths and used the handkerchief to wipe their faces, and ordered them to wake up and not waste her time. Starting with the dead twins, one after the other, mother and kids, all came back to life.

The massive crowd of church goers erupted into wild jubilation and mass hysteria when the revered pastor told this story. That day, not only did so many sow seeds, a lot more bought the anointing oil and handkerchief enmass because of the story…yet no one made any attempt to verify the story.

Last week, regrettably, a tragegy happened in the family of the revered pastor when sadly, one of his own sons died suddenly. May almighty God comfort the Adeboyes and may He grant eternal rest to the dead.

But one thing we all fail to understand is that as humanoids, we are frail, weak and what makes us human is the fact that from the day we were born, we started our count down to death! Death, ill health, misfortune, etc, are all part of the reality of existence in this part of space, even the Holy Bible said good and evil happens to anyone irrespective of who you are.

Being sick or facing tragedy is a part of being human, Jesus never said we won’t be sick, in fact, he said the Christian race can be likened to a cross. We all know what the cross is to him according to Christian theology. If as a Christian, one can never fall sick or experience misfortune as Pastor Chris is fond of saying, how would one appreciate times of good health and happiness? If you’ve never seen black how will you appreciate white? Many time Pastor Chris would boast that no Christian was permitted to be sick or face misfortune yet go to an average hospital today you will find members of Christ Embassy there too. Even Pastor Chris himself uses the best doctors, and right before our eyes, despite the best pedicure and manicure, he is ageing. Maybe he doesn’t know ageing is a type of illness 😃. Yet they tell thier members so many stuffs, to the extent that when they face challenges that are purely human, members begin to make a mountain of it or blame themselves or others!

Pastor W F Kumuyi was preaching at an Easter retreat when his wife of blessed memory died in the house, in fact, when he got home after he was informed, an aide asked if they should pray and bring her back, Kumuyi was reported to have said no, let her rest.

Arch Bishop Benson Idahosa of blessed memory was the greatest in his time, he died suddenly. For those who said he knew he was going to die, if the man was given a choice, would he have wanted to go when he did? The list goes on and on…

We need to desist from false hopes, from reassuring fables, and accept that the universe doesn’t really care about our punny concerns…we are the ones who must conform to it’s laws and do all our best to be fine.

May GOD rest the soul of the dead and comfort the family.
