Belgian Brys appointed as Cameroon new head coach

Cameroon presently leads Group D of African qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, having defeated Mauritius and drawn away against Libya.

Belgian Marc Brys has been named Cameroon’s national team coach, succeeding Rigobert Song, the sports ministry announced on Tuesday.

Throughout his career, the 61-year-old has coached 15 clubs in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Saudi Arabia.

His most recent work was a three-year stay at Leuven.

Francois Omam-Biyik, a former Cameroon forward who scored 26 international goals between 1985 and 1998, will serve as Brys’ assistant coach.

He takes over a side that was eliminated from the recent Africa Cup of Nations by Nigeria in the round of 16.

Cameroonian football federation head Samuel Eto’o did not renew Song’s contract following his AFCON departure.
