Nigeria and her institutions such as INEC, Political Parties and the rests are by section 1(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is legally responsible to hold this provision supreme. We all believe that the 2023 elections are coming and definitely there must be series of subtle campaigns for various elective positions. But it must be in accordance to the time scheduled.

That every political participant(s) must operate within the provisions of the Electoral Act (2010 ) ( As Amended ) if in the actual sense they want to achieve success. But surprisingly those who are supposed to ensure compliance with the necessary laws guiding any form of political activities closed their eyes to the provisions as contained in this Act and thereby making it useless.

In Niger state there are campaign pictures all over, jostling for the Governorship which is the highest office without paying particular attention to the necessary laws of the land as provided by section 99(1 ) of the Electoral Act 2010 ( As Amended ) which states as clearly as follows:

“For the purpose of this
Act,the period of
campaigning in public
every political party
shall commence 90
days before polling day
and end 24 hours prior
to that day “

What is the concerned institutions are doing to the enforcement of this law from now to 2023.It is a fact that, good example must be the beginning of any good thing. It is unfortunate that,if those jostling for the position of Governorship should be the first to step on this provision ,than it is very unfortunate.

Therefore,it is my hope that INEC of Niger state must quickly arrest this situation and call those Aspirants or their faithfuls to order by removing these campaign pictures immediately or otherwise be one of the grounds of disqualifications since a critical law of the land is proudly violated.
